Music Matters At Downward Dog Productions, we believe that music is a direct channel to the pulse of life, as well as a pure medium for inspiration of all kinds. We started in 1998 when singer-songwriter Dar Williams agreed to play a benefit concert in Homer for environmental group Cook Inlet Keeper. The support of the local community at this show opened the doors wide and allowed music to flow freely through this little town at the end of the road. It was then that we realized the depth of hunger for vibrant, live music in Homer. And so began the journey to spread the power and beauty of song in our wonderful community as often as we could.
Music Inspires True to form, Homer has earned its reputation as one of the most appreciative, enthusiastic, warm and welcoming audiences! The natural beauty of this small Alaskan fishing community has also been a lure for world-class artists, as well as for new and emerging bands, who are looking for that once in a lifetime chance to play in an inspiring and intimate setting.
Music can change the world Downward Dog takes its responsibility to the community seriously. Since 1998, our goal has been to produce shows that add to the quality of small town living. We also aim to help the town's non-profit arts agencies that share the same goal. We directly support local nonprofits through benefit concerts, discounted equipment rentals and production fees, as well as partial ticket proceeds from shows.
One show at a time Thanks to the tireless efforts of Mike McCormick at Whistling Swan Productions, we get a steady stream of great musicians every year. It is with Mike's help that we have been able to add Homer to the tour schedule of so many fine musicians.
